I became interested in the life of Billy Sing after reading John Hamilton’s excellent biography Gallipoli sniper: the life of Billy Sing. I was particularly interested in his marriage to Elizabeth Stewart, and how she seems to have simply disappeared.
Several months of digging around allowed me to work out what happened to the long-lost Mrs Sing. My research journey uncovered two children from two different fathers (neither being Billy), a trip to Australia with an Australian merchant seamen, and a good number of descendants.
I am currently sifting through my material with the aim of massaging it into an article or perhaps a small monograph.
